He earned his PhD from Technical University Prague, is a professor in the Exercise Physiology from Charles University Prague. Main topics: application of mathematical methods and models in PE and sport, using of biocybernetics by evaluation of physical fitness, exercise physiology, obesity reduction, functional and physical testing in laboratory and field, body composition, BIA methods, moving regimes for prevention in cardiac and obese patients.
He is a member of Czech and International scientific societies, head of many research projects, and author of the great numbers of research reports.
He is head of the biggest Centre of Obesity Surgery in Germany - The Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch. Has published more than 37 papers in reputed journals and performed more than 500 presentations. The Humboldt University of Berlin nominated him as professor of surgery in 1997.
In 2006 he started bariatric surgery, which then became the focus of his work. He has completed his PhD at the age of 27. Within 15 years he became a general, visceral, orthopaedic and vascular surgeon and specialist in surgery; trauma; vascular surgery.

Professor Lakshman is currently the Director of Research Laboratories and the Chief of Lipid Research at the VA Medical Center, Washington, D.C. He also has joint appointments as a Professor in the Departments of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology as well as in the Department of Medicine, the George Washington University, Washington, D.C.
He directs studies in the areas of Alcoholism, Alcoholic Liver Disease, Oxidative Stress, Coronary Artery Disease, Lipids & Lipoproteins, Metabolic & Genetic Obesity, Hepatotoxins, Gene Regulation & Expression.
Professor Lakshman had the privilege of extensive post-doctoral training with world-renowned scientists like Keith Murray. National Research Council, Canada, James Olson, Rockefeller Foundation, John Porter and Henry Lardy, the University of Wisconsin before joined the National Institute of Health, to work on Alcoholic Hyperlipidemia under the able guidance of Professors Richard Veech and Nobel Laureate, Hans Krebs.
In 1979, he received the prestigious VA Research Career Scientist Award working in the field of Alcohol and Alcoholism at the VA Medical Center, Washington, D.C. He was honoured the “Washington Heart Ball” Research Award in 1990 in the field of Hyperlipidemia.
Dr. Lakdawala graduated from the prestigious Grant Medical College in Mumbai and did his Masters in Surgery from BYL Nair Hospital. He went to train further in bariatric surgery at Cleveland clinic in USA and at University of Ghent hospital in Belgium. He also trained in advanced colorectal cancer surgery in Seoul, Korea.
Dr. Lakdawala is the Chairman of the Institute of Minimal Invasive Surgical Sciences and Research Center at Saifee Hospital, Mumbai and also heads the Section of Laparoscopic GI Oncology. He was the first surgeon in western India to perform a total laparoscopic Whipples pancreatico-duodenectomy for cancer of head of pancreas.
Dr. Lakdawala holds the distinction of operating on Asia’s most obese man in China in 2006. He is the pioneer of single incision bariatric surgery in India and performed the first single incision sleeve gastrectomy in September 2009. Till date he has performed over 3,000 bariatric procedures and has the largest series of revision bariatric surgeries to his credit.
He is also deeply involved in training younger surgeons and is a Professor at the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. Every year 4 post MS candidates train under him for bariatric and laparoscopic surgery. He regularly runs live surgery workshops and has been invited to conduct teaching workshops in almost every Asian country like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, China, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Middle East.
He was also the first Indian surgeon to transmit live surgery to USA in the Obesity Week organized by the prestigious ASMBS (American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery) first of its kind, Indo-Italian collaborative Revisional bariatric surgery workshop has been planned for April 2016 at Naples, Italy where Dr. Lakdawala will join forces with the immediate past president of IFSO, Dr Luigi Angrisani.
He has been a part of some very prestigious committees like the IDF committee that formulated the new guidelines for bariatric surgery for Asian patients. He was one of the co-directors in the international sleeve gastrectomy expert panel in Florida in 2011 and also the IFSO-APC consensus statement in Japan in 2011. Dr. Lakdawala is on the board of Asian Endosurgery Task Force (AETF). To add another feather in his cap Dr. Lakdawala is the President elect of IFSO- Asia Pacific chapter and will assume presidency in the year 2017.
Nathan A. Berger, M.D., Case Western Reserve University Distinguished University Professor and Hanna-Payne Professor of Experimental Medicine, Biochemistry, Genetics and Oncology, is Director of the Center for Science, Health and Society at CWRU, and emeritus director of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, Cleveland OH.
Dr. Berger leads the institution’s program on Aging, Energy Balance and Cancer and was principal investigator for the Transdisciplinary Research in Energy Balance and Cancer (TREC) U54. He has a sustained record of invaluable research, training and scientific leadership. He now serves as Co PI for the NCI funded P50 Specialized Program on Research Excellence (SPORE) in GI Cancer and the NCI funded U54 funded Barrett’s Esophagus Translational Research Network (BETRNet).
Dr. Berger’s research now focuses on the use of genetically engineered mouse models to study the mechanisms and mediators of obesity, inflammation, dietary lipid quantity and quality on GI neoplasia in APCMin/+ mice, on prostate cancer in TRAMP mice, on breast cancer in MMTV-Wnt-1 mice, on the effects of bile acids, obesity and inflammation on Barrett’s Esophagus and Esophageal Adenocarcinoma using the L2-IL-1β Transgenic mouse, as well as the effects of enhanced exercise on obesity and tumor growth in PEPCK-C Transgenic mice. He is actively engaged also in translational research in human and model system on the effects of enhanced exercise on obesity and tumor growth.
Gundu H. R. Rao obtained his B.Sc degree from the University of Mysore and B.Sc (Hons) and M.Sc., degrees from the Poona University. He immigrated to the USA in 1965 and specialized in grain storage technology and obtained his Ph.D degree from the Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas. After working as, a post-doctoral fellow at the Texas A&M University and University of Minnesota, he joined department of Pharmacology as an NIH fellow to get training in toxicology. He has been with the University of Minnesota Medical School for over 40 years.
He is a naturalized US citizen and a tenured professor in the department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology. He also has faculty appointments in Anesthesiology, Lillehei Heart Institute, and Biomedical Engineering Institute. He is an author or co-author of over 300 publications in the field of interest (thrombosis and stroke). In the past, he has consulted various medical device development companies in the Twin Cities including 3M, Medtronic Inc, St Jude Medical, Medical CV Inc, Vascular Solutions, APP Tech, Endocardial Solutions, PlaCor Inc., Medical Innovations Inc, Hypertension Diagnostics Inc. and Boston Scientific on problems related to biocompatibility, thrombosis and stroke.
He was the visiting Professor in the Department of Surgery and Pharmacology, Kings College, in 1986 and in the Royal College of Surgeons, England in the summer of 1987, and in the Thrombosis Research Institute, London in 1988. He taught one summer at the Institute of Human Physiology, University of Padua, Padua, Italy. He also served as senior consultant to the Government of India, for three successive years (1990-93), under a United Nations program called TOKTEN. He also served as a visiting professor in the Institute of Human Physiology, University of Padua, Italy during 1995-96.
He is currently listed as the Senior Fulbright Specialist. He started a society (South Asian Society on Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis, SASAT) to create awareness on vascular diseases in 1993. Since then he is organizing international symposiums on Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis in India, every other year. He has edited and published eight books under the aegis of SASAT.

Created “Stop Metabolic Syndrome”, “Insulin Resistance and Metabolic Syndrome Association”, “Uric Acid and Metabolic Syndrome Association”, “Stop Obesity Association” since 10 years ago in Japan. Masahiro has broad marketing management background including coaching as he hired and trained over 1,000 employee in two years to reach to the top company in Japan.
While working as Head of surgery , have helped in establishing & developing dedicated bariatric centers in different hospitals in Dubai since 1990. Currently working as Director of bariatric department in Al Zahra hospital Dubai , running a dedicated bariatric programme successfully.
Dr Girish juneja is a well experienced Laparo-bariatric surgeon with more than 30 yrs. of experience in surgical field. He had his basic & advanced laparoscopic training from nine wells medical college , UK and did his diploma in minimal access(laparoscopic) surgery from France. Did his fellowship in bariatric surgery from Netherland. He is also a international fellow of ASMBS, USA.
Academically he is actively involved in teaching laparo-baraitric surgery to young surgeons, has organized various international conferences & has delivered CME lectures for fellow doctors & actively involved in public education for obesity.
Dr. Vineeta Sharma is the Founder and Principal Consultant at Xpedite Pharma Solutions. Xpedite is a life sciences consulting company dedicated to providing regulatory, clinical trial management, clinical data management and scientific writing support to advance treatment for diabetes and other metabolic disorders.
Dr. Sharma holds a PhD from AIIMS, New Delhi and post-doctoral training from University of Michigan and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. She has published several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in the field of metabolic disorders, obesity, diabetes, hematology and gene therapy. Over the years her research was mainly focused on metabolic disorders, gene therapy and biomarker discovery.
Additionally, Dr. Sharma has also worked in startups, mid-size and fortune 500 companies, and in the areas of R&D, project management, product development, business development, regulatory affairs and clinical trial management.
Dr. Mohit Bhandari is a renowed Bariatric, Robotic and Metabolic Surgeon who has performed more than 6000 bariatic cases, highest in Asia. He has expertise in Banded, Single Incision and robotic weight loss surgeries.
